Set up the app
- Install the Portico app for your television or streaming device.
- Sign in with your Portico Account, or choose Sign in directly to a server for a server account.
- Open a server you’re authorized to use. For direct sign-in, enter its address and approve the TV’s code from a signed-in phone or browser, or choose Use a password instead.
See Connect a Portico app for both account paths and connection requirements.
Navigate with a remote
Use the directional buttons to move the highlighted selection, then press Select or OK to open it. Use Back to close a menu or return to the previous screen. Adjust sound with your TV, receiver or remote’s volume controls.
How playback is chosen
TV hardware varies in codec, subtitle, audio, HDR and network support. Portico uses direct play when the device can handle the source and requests a compatible stream when it can’t.
If one television keeps having problems, try the same item in another app. The owner can review the active playback decision under Settings → Server → Dashboard → Watching now.
Apple TV requires HTTPS for remote public addresses; plain HTTP works only to local-network addresses. Other TV platforms allow HTTP from anywhere. Portico apps can use the owner’s own certificate after checking the server’s identity.
